First Aid at Work - FAW - requalifying course

Course Description

 
To attend a requalifying course, learners must produce a copy of a First Aid at Work Certificate that is either HSE approved or Ofqual/ SQA regulated. This certificate must not have expired by more than 3 months.
 
Please note: When a first aider’s certificate has expired, that person will not be accepted as a workplace first aider under the Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981, so employers are advised to re qualify their first aiders early.
 
Course Duration – 2 days*
*Minimum contact teaching hours apply to this qualification to comply with HSE/Skills for Health guidance – the FAW requalification should be delivered in no less than 12 hours (2 days) excluding breaks.
 
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements but to benefit from the learning, learners should possess communication skills sufficient to allow them to address the assessment requirements of the qualification

Practical assessment completed throughout the course,
Theoretical assessment – Multiple choice written assessment

  • Understand the role and responsibilities of a first aider.
  • Be able to assess an incident.
  • Be able to manage an unresponsive casualty who is breathing normally.
  • Be able to manage an unresponsive casualty who is not breathing normally.
  • Be able to manage an unresponsive casualty who is not breathing normally.
  • Recognise and assist a casualty who is choking.
  • Manage a casualty who is wounded and bleeding.
  • Manage a casualty who is in shock.
  • Understand how to manage a casualty with a minor injury.
  • Be able to conduct a secondary survey
  • Be able to administer first aid to a casualty with injuries to bones, muscles and joints.
  • Be able to administer first aid to a casualty with suspected head and spinal injury.
  • Be able to administer first aid to a casualty with a suspected chest injury.
  • Be able to administer first aid to a casualty with burns and scalds.
  • Be able to administer first aid to a casualty with an eye injury
  • Be able to administer first aid to a casualty with sudden poisoning.
  • Be able to administer first aid to a casualty with anaphylaxis.
  • Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected major illness
