Course Description

This course looks at the challenges faced by those with sight and hearing loss and enables the candidate to learn how best to communicate with people who have a sensory loss. Most people with a sensory loss want to remain as independent as possible but may require help at such times when shopping, visiting unfamiliar places and in the work place etc.
 
 

Course Topics

  • Communication Skills with Sight and Hearing loss
  • Skills training in and around the home
  • Guiding techniques – learn how to safely guide a person with severe sight loss
  • A display and demonstration of specialist equipment available to those with sight and hearing loss
  • Eye Conditions – covering the most common forms of sight loss, including Charles Bonet Syndrome
  • Sim Specs – the opportunity to try on special sight simulation spectacles that show what a person suffering from a sight condition actually sees
  • Lip reading
  • Sign Language and Finger Spelling
  • Referral processes
  • Statutory Services
